Boxx/Nijssen Set For ITA National Indoor
11/03/2009 University of Mississippi

OXFORD, Miss. - Kristi Boxx and Karen Nijssen of the Ole Miss women's tennis team will be among the nation's top men's and women's players competing in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, starting Thursday, Nov. 5.  This year's event is hosted by Yale University and will take place November 5-8 at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn.

The ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships are the second of three national tournaments for singles and doubles during the collegiate tennis season.

The National Indoor features a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field for men and women, including: champions from Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held across the country during October, the ITA National Small College champions, the winners of the D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Tennis Championships and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, and at-large and wild card selections made by the ITA National Tournament Committee.

Boxx received an at-large bid to the singles draw.  She reached the finals of the ITA Southern Regional and is ranked No. 25 in the nation.    She will team up with Nijssen in the doubles. The ninth-ranked duo captured the ITA Southern Regional doubles title to earn a spot in the field.

"We are excited for Kristi and Karen to be part of a very elite field this week," head coach Mark Beyers said.  "The top 32 singles players and top 16 doubles teams will be competing for a collegiate grand slam title.  This shows where Kristi and Karen are from a national standpoint.  We've had a great fall as a team, and we hope to continue it in New Haven this week."

Play begins Thursday at 8 a.m. CT with doubles.  Live scoring throughout the tournament will be available by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the link in the Rebel Hub.
