Ole Miss Rifle Drops A Heartbreaker To UTEP
11/09/2009 University of Mississippi

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel rifle team lost another heartbreaker over the weekend, this time falling by one point to UTEP at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center. The two teams finished in a deadlock in the smallbore with a score of 2257, but the Miners pulled out the one point victory by besting the Rebels 2327-2326 in the air rifle.

“We were right there,” said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. “We shot really well; we just got edged out on the last shot in the air. We are competing really well right now; we just have to keep working.”

Keely Stankey led the Rebels in the smallbore firing a total of 572. Colleen Tillson finished closed behind Stankey with a mark of 563, while Meredith Holman turned in a score of 562. Emma Holman closed out the Rebel smallbore scoring with a mark of 560. Competing as individuals, Amanda Green fired a score of 525 and Misty White turned in a mark of 516.

In the air rile, Tillson fired a season-high score of 590 to pace the Rebels. Meredith Holman (585) and Stankey (582) both tuned in excellent scores, while Emma Holman (569) rounded out the Rebel line. Green (560) and White (528) also shot as individuals.

Next up, Ole Miss will travel to Charleston, S.C. on November, 14 to take on home standing Citadel and N.C. State.
