Rebels Sign Pair Of Talented Hitters For 2010
11/19/2009 University of Mississippi
OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss baseball team continued to add to its 2010 signing class with the signing of Jordan Poole and Gabe Woods, head coach Mike Bianco announced on Thursday.

The pair are the latest announced signees, joining previously announced signees Will Allen, Austin Anderson, Ryan Bolden, Nathan Foriest, Casey Greene, Austin Hartzog, Jimel Judon, Casey Mulholland, Mike Mayers, Preston Overbey and Bobby Wahl.

"This group is part of a very talented class that we're bringing to Ole Miss," said assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Reinstetle. "We feel this is one of the best classes ever to sign here. We have several players ranked in the top 100 nationally by publications and have filled our needs with some young talented position players and some top quality arms who will all make an impact early. We feel we are setting ourselves up for future runs to Omaha and the College World Series."

Poole, a 6-3 outfielder and first baseman, comes to Ole Miss from Calhoun High School in Calhoun, Ga. The utility player was a key player for Calhoun this past season, hitting .405 with 16 home runs and drew 38 walks to help pace the offense. Over the past two seasons, Poole has combined for 32 home runs and 87 RBI for his high school team.

Poole also competes in summer ball with East Cobb, where he played with current Ole Miss Rebel Zach Lowery. He also boasts a 4.0 grade point average.

"Jordan is one of the best young power hitters in the country," Reinstetle said. "He is a tremendous athlete who is versatile enough to play both the outfield and first base. We're excited to get him on campus and as a part of our program."

Poole chose Ole Miss over TCU, LSU, Florida International and Clemson.

Woods, a 5-11 middle infielder, comes to the Rebels from Albany High School in Albany, La. Last season at Albany, Woods hit .489 with seven home runs and 38 RBI as a key piece of his team's offense. He helped lead Albany to a 25-6 record before losing in the semifinals of the Class 2A state tournament.

The infielder was an All-State and All-District selection in 2008.

"Gabe is a talented middle infielder from Louisiana," Reinstetle said. "He is a good all-around player who plays solid defense and is a gifted hitter. We look forward to him coming to Ole Miss and joining our program."

Woods chose Ole Miss over LSU, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Southeastern Louisiana.
