Rebel Golfers Set For Two-Tourney Spring Break Trip
03/14/2010 University of Mississippi

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's golf team takes its momentum from winning its last tournament to Ruston, La., this week for the Squire Creek Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech at the Squire Creek Country Club.

The Rebels are coming off a win at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.  This will be the first of consecutive tournaments for the team during spring break.  The two-day event begins Monday at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start and includes 36 holes.  The final round will be played Tuesday.

Junior Jonathan Randolph leads the Rebels with a 70.32 stroke average.  He looks to continue to build on an already strong year that includes two tournament titles.  Joining the Brandon, Miss., native is sophomore Joe David, freshmen Tom Brown and Pete Kellermann and sophomore Billy Brozovich.

"We got some confidence from winning the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate," head coach Ernest Ross said.  "We weren't perfect, but it was a good learning experience while still earning the trophy.  I do have high expectations of our team even though we are young.  I love our work ethic, and I am proud of our upper-classmen leadership.  I know we are headed in the right direction.  Playing well in golf is not so much about playing better than your opponent, but playing up to your own capabilities.  That is our focus at this time.

"We are headed out for the first tournament in a two-tournament, nine-day swing over spring break.  This is a taxing adventure for any group.  I feel confident that this group will handle it well and will continue to improve.  I can't wait to get started!"

Following this tournament, the Rebels will travel to Statesboro, Ga., for the Chris Schenkel Invitational.  To follow live scoring of the Squire Creek Intercollegiate, go to www.OleMissSports.com and click on the link in the Rebel Hub.
