Rebel Golf And Randolph Second At Squire Creek
03/16/2010 University of Mississippi

CHOUDRANT, La. - The Ole Miss men's golf team (881) shot a final round 299, and lost their tournament lead to Southeastern Louisiana, who finished with a 292 in the last round Tuesday, to win by one (880) at the Squire Creek Country Club.

Junior Jonathan Randolph continued his outstanding year, finishing at even par (216) for the tournament and tied for second.  He was named to the All-Tournament Team.  The Brandon, Miss., native earned his fifth top-five finish of the year and third in three tournaments this spring.  Randolph finished behind Southeastern Louisiana's Cedric Scotto, who took medalist honors with a 212.

Freshman Tom Brown earned his best finish as a Rebel, taking seventh with a 221.  He, like Randolph, was in contention to win heading into Tuesday's final round, but shot 78 to fall back.  Fellow freshman Pete Kellermann shot his best round (70) as a Rebel in the final round to move up to a tie for 18th with teammates Joe David and Billy Brozovich.

"I want to congratulate Southeastern Louisiana for a very good round today," head coach Ernest Ross said.  "They outplayed us. For us, Pete Kellermann had his best collegiate round. He hit it great and kept picking good targets. Jonathan had another very good tournament. He is an exceptional leader.  Beyond that, we played today's round like we haven't learned from any past mistakes.  We follow up one bad shot with another, mainly because we press too hard and take unwarranted risks."

The Rebels won't have much time to rest as they head to Statesboro, Ga., for the Chris Schenkel Invitational March 19-21.
