OXFORD, Miss. – A pair of former Rebels currently playing in the minor leagues were named to represent their teams in their respective league’s All-Star games as Lance Lynn and Zach Cozart received the distinction recently.
Lynn competed for the North team in the Texas League All-Star game on Wednesday night, while Cozart will compete in the Southern League All-Star game on July 13, in Birmingham, Ala.
Lynn, who is with the St. Louis Cardinals organization and currently plays for the double-A affiliate Springfield Cardinals, saw an inning of work on Wednesday night in the North Division win. Lynn pitched the sixth inning, allowing no hits and striking out one to help his team claim the 2-1 victory over the South Division All-Stars.
Lynn is 6-2 with a 4.09 ERA this season with Springfield with 11 starts under his belt. He has struck out 43 and walked only 21 in 61.2 innings of work for the Cardinals
Cozart, who is with the Cincinnati Reds organization, is currently competing with the double-A affiliate Carolina Mudcats. He was named as a starter for the North Division in the Southern League All-Star game to be played at Regions Park in Birmingham on Monday, July 13.
The shortstop is hitting .287 for the Mudcats and has tallied 21 doubles, a triple and eight home runs while notching 38 RBI for Carolina. He is also 6-for-6 in steals this season.
