OXFORD, Miss. -- The Rebels used a pair of two-out hits in the ninth and 10th inning on Wednesday to rally for the second straight night as No. 15 Ole Miss (19-8) defeated Memphis (10-16) by a score of 7-6 at AutoZone Park. With the Rebels trailing 6-5 in the ninth and Logan Power on second, Kyle Henson came up with an RBI single up the middle to drive Power home and knot the game at six. Ole Miss held the Tigers off in the bottom half of the frame only to see Jordan Henry come up with a two-out RBI single to score Zach Miller in the 10th and give the Rebels the 7-6 victory. Jake Morgan (3-1) picked up the win in relief as he entered the game in the ninth and retired six straight batters - five on strikeouts - to give the Rebels the victory. Reliever Duke Williams (1-1) suffered the loss for the Tigers as he entered in the 10th and allowed one run on two hits with a walk and no strikeouts. “It’s always great to win, but I don’t feel we played very well,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “We have got to play better. The good thing is that we are finding a way to win, which is something we didn’t do last year when we didn’t play well.” The Rebels jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on the Tigers as Ole Miss took advantage of three hits and a two base error on a sharply hit ball to right field from Henry that gave the Rebels the early advantage. Memphis answered, however, pushing a run across in the second on a solo home run from Shawn Ablett before pushing two runs across in the third on a pair of hits and a throwing error by he Rebels to tie the game at three. The Tigers took the lead in the sixth when Trey Wiedman hit a two-run home run to spark a three-run rally that saw the home team move ahead by three on the visiting Rebels, 6-3. Ole Miss then mounted the first of three separate rallies in the seventh as the Rebels loaded the bases on a walk, a single and a hit by pitch before Henson drew a walk to push the first run home. Matt Smith then grounded into a double play to drive a second run across the plate and cut the lead to 6-5 after the top of the seventh. The Rebels then held the Tigers off the board in the eighth before mounting the rally in the ninth. Power reached on a fielder’s choice before moving to second on a wild pitch and then scoring the tying run on the single from Henson. Morgan then entered the game in the bottom of the ninth and sat down the Memphis batters in order with a strikeout, a fly out and a strikeout to bring the Rebels back up to the plate. In the 10th, Miller led things off with a single before stealing second. He then scored two outs later on he single from Henry to give the Rebels the lead and score what proved to be the winning run as Morgan struck out the side in order in the bottom half of the frame to grab the win. Ole Miss will return to action this weekend when the Rebels host Kentucky in a three-game series in Oxford starting on Friday. First pitch against the Wildcats is set for 6:30 p.m. at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
