FORT WORTH, Texas – Second-ranked Ole Miss (10-2) managed a rally in the eighth to tie the game, but wasn’t able to hold on in the end when a fielding error on a long fly ball to centerfield in the ninth allowed TCU (6-5) to claim the second game of a doubleheader against the Rebels 5-4.

Ole Miss claimed the first game of the day 3-1 behind the pitching of Lance Lynn and Scott Bittle before splitting the twin bill with the loss in game two.

Justin Cryer (1-1) suffered the loss in the second game of the day as he came on in the ninth with the game tied at four. He worked 0.2 innings with a strikeout and a walk and allowed the one unearned run. Rory McKean worked a bulk of the game, turning in 5.0 innings pitched with a walk, two strikeouts and allowed only two hits.

Andrew Cashner (3-0) picked up the win for the Horned Frogs as he allowed only one walk in his 1.2 innings on the mound.

Michael Guerrero led the Rebels at the plate in the second game of the day, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

TCU scored in the first inning of game two, pushing two runs across the plate as back to back doubles with a runner on first gave TCU the 2-0 lead.

Ole Miss answered in the bottom half of the inning when Evan Button doubled down the right field line to score Fuller Smith and Zach Miller. Smith reached on a throwing error from third before moving to second on a wild pitch. Miller then reached on a walk.

The Horned Frogs got things going again in the third inning when TCU put runners at first and third with no outs. Ben Carruthers was hit by a pitch before moving to third on a bunt by Bryan Kervin that was popped up past the mound and was unable to be fielded by a diving Zach Miller. A walk loaded the bases before Satterwhite hit the next batter to put TCU back in front 3-2. Vern then grounded into a double play at third but another run scored to give the Horned Frogs the 4-2 lead.

Ole Miss loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth, but TCU got back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to get out of the inning. The Horned Frogs still held to a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom half of the frame.

The Rebels cut the lead to one in the eighth when Logan Power scored from third on a groundout from Matt Smith. Power walked before moving to second on a walk of Cody Overbeck. Both runners then advanced on a walk before Power scored on the Smith ground out. Ole Miss then tied the game when Michael Guerrero doubled to left center to push Overbeck across the plate and knot things at four.

TCU claimed the win in the bottom of the ninth when Aaron Schulz scored from second on a fielding error in centerfield on a long fly ball from Ben Carruthers.

In the first game of the day, Lance Lynn (3-0) picked up the win for the Rebels as he worked 6.0 inning, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Scott Bittle then picked up the save as he worked the final 3.0 innings allowing only one hit as he walked one and struck out five.

TCU struck first as Matt Vern came up with an RBI double in the third inning that scored Ben Carruthers from first. Carruthers had reached on a walk an at bat earlier.

Ole Miss answered in the fourth when Cody Overbeck scored on a fielding error at third on a pick-off attempt. Overbeck singled to open the inning before moving to third on a double down the right field line from Matt Smith. Smith advanced to third on the error on the pick-off attempt. Logan Power then singled up the middle to score Smith and the Rebels claimed a 2-1 lead. The Rebels loaded the bases with a single and a walk before Brett Basham pushed another run across with a groundout to short that extended the lead to 3-1 in favor of the Rebels.
