Logan Power again led the Rebels at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Michael Guerrero came up with the big hit for the Rebels, his only of the night, as he tallied four RBI. Scott Bittle (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he worked 4.0 innings with one run on two hits and tallied one walk and five strikeouts. Bittle entered the game with a man on first in the sixth inning. John Lalor (0-1) suffered the loss as he worked 2.0 innings, allowing four runs on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Lalor entered the game to start the seventh inning with the game tied at six and two men on. “We won tonight because of our offense,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “We just kept answering them. The were not a lot of hits tonight, but we were able to string them together and put together the big inning.” Ole Miss answered in the top of the second when Jordan Henry came up with a two-RBI single to score Evan Button and Brett Basham. Button was hit by pitch to open the inning before moving to third on a double from Basham. A double from Cody Overbeck moved Henry to third before he scored on a sac fly from Michael Guerrero to give the Rebels a 3-1 lead. A Logan Power walk sent the Bulldogs to the pen as Pigott came off the mound with an apparent injury. Greg Houston got the final out to end the inning with Ole Miss leading by two. Back-to-back home runs from Jason Nappi and Cody Freeman with two outs erased the Rebel lead and tied the game at three in the bottom half of the third. The Rebels reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Button came up with a bases loaded single to left field, scoring Logan Power and keep the bases loaded. Basham then hit into a fielder’s choice that saw Fuller Smith cross the plate and give the Rebels a 5-4 lead. The lead was short lived, however, as Ole Miss tied the game at six in the seventh when Power scored on a single up the middle from Fuller Smith. Power singled to open the inning before moving to second on a walk of Matt Smith. The Rebels were unable to get the lead, however, as Mississippi State brought in John Lalor from the pen who notched a strikeout and a double play to end the threat. The Rebels took the lead in the eighth when Guerrero cleared the bases with a double down the left field line that gave Ole Miss a 9-6 lead. The Rebels pushed the lead to 10-6 when Guerrero scored from second on a fielding error at third on a grounder from Power. Another run was added to the Rebels’ side of the board in the ninth when Overbeck came up with an RBI-single that scored Miller from second and gave Ole Miss an 11-6 lead. Bittle would hold the Bulldogs off the board in the bottom half of the frame to secure the win for the Rebels. Ole Miss and |
