TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Rebels entered Sunday with a lead in the resumption of Saturday’s game that was suspended due to weather, but No. 15 Ole Miss (15-11, 3-5 SEC) wouldn’t score again as Alabama (15-11, 4-4 SEC) rallied for a 5-3 win in the first of two games to be played. Ole Miss and The Rebels had two runners on base, two outs and a 2-0 count on Sean Stuyverson when play resumed. The junior shortstop battled at the plate before flying out to the fence in left field. Drew Pomeranz (1-1) took the loss for the Rebels as he took the mound again for the second day. Pomeranz worked 5.2 innings combined as he allowed four runs on seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Will Stroup (3-0) picked up the win as he started the resumed portion of the game and worked 5.2 innings on Sunday, holding the Rebels scoreless and to one hit with three walks and five strikeouts. Josh Copeland picked up his third save of the season as he closed out the final 0.2 innings with no hits and a strikeout. After resuming the game with Ole Miss holding the 3-2 lead, the two teams remained scoreless through the next three innings before Bittle then walked a man to load the bases before striking out Alex Avila on three straight pitches to end the inning. The Crimson Tide mounted another two out rally in the seventh inning to push the lead to 5-3. Kent Matthes walked on four pitches before stealing second. He then scored on a single to right field from Smith. |
