The victory avoided the series sweep and put the Rebels back on the winning side of things. Ole Miss remains tied for first in the SEC Western Division with the win. Justin Cryer (2-3) picked up the win for the Rebels as he worked the final 2.1 innings, holding the Crimson Tide scoreless as he gave up only two hits and struck out one. Cody Satterwhite worked 6.2 innings in the start, allowing one run on two hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. Robert Phares (1-1) took the loss as he allowed two runs on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts. He worked 8.0 innings in the start. Zach Miller led the Rebels at the plate as he went 2-for-3 on the afternoon with a run scored. Tim Ferguson and Matt Smith also recorded two hits on the afternoon, while Fuller Smith was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a sac bunt to set up the Miller score to take the lead. “That game was all about Cody Satterwhite on the mound,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “He had his best performance of the year in a game where we needed it most. We had several big plays defensively from Fuller Smith in left field, Logan Power in right field, Brett Basham behind the plate and Tim Ferguson for the last out. You need those kind of plays to get the win.” The Rebels scored in the first as Michael Guerrero singled through the left side to score Fuller Smith from second. Smith singled to center before moving to second on a single to center from Cody Overbeck. Ole Miss got things going in the ninth as Miller and Basham reached on a hit by pitch and a walk to open the inning. A sac bunt from Fuller Smith moved both runners over before Power singled to right center to score Miller and give the Rebels the 2-1 lead. Alabama wasn’t done, however, as Matthes came up with a two-out triple to left center as the Crimson Tide mounted a rally in the bottom half of the inning. But the Rebels got the big play when they needed it as a grounder to short saw the freshman slide into the play, backhand the ball and come up throwing for the final out to preserve the Rebel win.
