OXFORD, Miss. – The Rebels continued to swing the bat on Wednesday as No. 13 Ole Miss (3-2) pounded out 15 hits and scored 11 runs on the way to an 11-3 win over Central Arkansas (2-3) at Oxford-University Stadium.
Tim Ferguson was the hottest bat in the Rebel lineup as the sophomore went 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Logan Power was also solid offensively with a 3-for-5 night as he tallied two runs scored and two RBI along with his third home run of the season. Brett Bukvich (1-0) picked up the win for the Rebels as he worked 5.0 innings and allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts. Three other pitchers closed out the game for Ole Miss as Rory McKean, Chris Corrigan and Michael Park all saw action. Logan Ariola (0-1) took the loss for the Bears as he worked 3.0 innings and allowed six runs – four earned – on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Central Arkansas struck first, scoring in the top of the first on a single from Eric Tennyson that scored Dickson from third. Dickson doubled to open the game before moving to third on a ground out from Huffman. The lead was short lived, however, as the Rebels put up three runs in the bottom of the inning. Jordan Henry drew a walk to open the inning before moving to third on a single from Ferguson. Henry then scored on a single from Matt Smith. Logan Power then reached on a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. Ole Miss then added two more runs on a throwing error from the Bears’ first baseman following a grounder from Michael Hubbard. The Rebels continued to add to the lead from there as Power opened the third inning with a solo shot to left field to push the advantage to 4-1 in favor of the home team. Ole Miss continued to push runs across the plate, scoring four runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth inning to take the lead out to 11-1.. Central Arkansas rallied briefly in the eighth inning as the Bears scored two runs on three hits to trim the lead to 11-3, but the Rebels held the visitors off the board in the ninth for the final margin of victory. Ole Miss will continue to play at home this weekend as the Rebels will play host to 16th-ranked TCU this weekend. The first game of the series will be at 6:30 p.m. at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. |
