Notes From Vanderbilt Week Depth Chart

Ole Miss released the game notes for Thursday's season opener at Vanderbilt (8:15 p.m. CT, ESPN), which included an updated depth chart. A few notes and observations:

Three freshmen -- tight end Evan Engram, wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and defensive end Robert Nkemdiche -- are listed as starters. Four other freshmen are also on the two deep as backups: left tack Laremy Tunsil, right tackle Austin Golson, wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo and Nickel (Huskie) Tonny Conner.

Three positions are listed with co-starters, including both cornerback positions: Field corner (Quintavius Burdette, Senquez Golson), Boundary corner (Dehendret Collins, Charles Sawyer) and Rover safety (Trae Elston, Chief Brown).

Three positions are listed with co-backups: center behind Evan Swindell (Robert Conyers, Ben Still), running back behind Jeff Scott (Jaylen Walton, I'Tavius Mathers) and defensive tackle behind Bryon Bennett (Lavon Hooks, Carlton Martin).

On the offensive line, Aaron Morris is listed ahead of Jared Duke at left guard, and Justin Bell is listed ahead of Patrick Junen at right guard.

Nick Parker, now wearing No. 34, is listed as the backup tight end behind Evan Engram, and Jordan Holder, now wearing No. 21, is listed as the backup wide receiver behind Laquon Treadwell but ahead of Collins Moore. 

Barry Brunetti, as expected, is listed as the backup quarterback behind Bo Wallace.

Woodrow Hamilton is listed as the starter at nose tackle ahead of Issac Gross. 

D.T. Shackelford is listed as the backup defensive end behind C.J. Johnson and the backup Wolf linebacker behind Keith Lewis. 

Cameron Whigham is listed as the other backup defensive end behind Robert Nkemdiche, with Carlos Thompson third team behind C.J. Johnson and D.T. Shackelford, and Channing Ward third team behind Robert Nkemdiche and Cameron Whigham. 

At the other linebacker spots, Serderius Bryant is listed as the backup Stinger linebacker behind Denzel Nkemdiche, and Temario Strong is listed as the backup middle linebacker behind Mike Marry. 

Mike Hilton is listed as the starter at Nickel (Huskie), then Tony Conner, then Cliff Coleman.

Jaylen Walton and Kailo Moore are listed as the kickoff returners. Jeff Scott is listed as the starter at punt returner ahead of Trae Elston.

I like what he represents in today's world of big time sports and what he stands for in leading young men of today into a more responsible role. He is everything that Ole Miss has never had.
