Ole Miss Athletics Records Its Highest Directors' Cup Finish

June 29, 2017

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss athletics department recorded the highest finish in its history in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup, as the final 2016-17 standings were released on Thursday.

The Rebels’ 39th-place finish breaks the previous school record of 45th set in 1998-99. Ole Miss has placed inside the top 50 each of the last two seasons (49th in 2015-16) after only two such finishes previously (1998-99 and 49th in 2006-07).

“We are proud of the hard work by our student-athletes and coaches in reaching this new milestone for our department,” said Ross Bjork, Ole Miss Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics. “We strive for success in all areas, and the Directors' Cup is an excellent barometer for that. Our ceiling has yet to be defined and we know there is more to be accomplished in all of our sports. We look forward to competing for and winning championships in the years to come.”

The Directors’ Cup measures competitive success for all Division-I schools. For each NCAA-sanctioned sport, schools are awarded points based on NCAA championship participation.

The Rebel men’s cross country team finished fourth to lead 10 programs that scored points toward Ole Miss’ Director’s Cup total.
