Spirit Squads Win Big At UCA/UDA Camp

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss spirit squads won big at the Universal Cheer Association/Universal Dance Association college camp recently, picking up several awards in competition with some of the top collegiate spirit squads in the nation.

All 70 members of the Ole Miss spirit squads which includes the cheerleaders, Rebelettes and mascots traveled to the camp in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the weekend of July 18-21 after a week-long training session in Oxford.

Throughout the course of the camp, the squads participated in skill classes, game day preparation, evaluation and competition in their respective disciplines.

All four groups were honored with top honors through various awards, including the coveted Division I Leadership Award that was presented to the Ole Miss cheerleaders and selected by the other teams participating in the camp. Both the cheerleaders and Rebelettes received the Program Improvement Award which recognizes selected programs that continue to progress and strive for success year after year.

Individual Team Awards claimed by the respective squads include:

* Game Day Sideline - 2nd Place
* Fight Song - 1st Place
* Overall D1A (JV) - 2nd Place
