Ole Miss Marketing/Communications Announces New Hires

Aug. 8, 2013

OXFORD, Miss. - As a new athletics year begins, the Marketing and Communications division of the Ole Miss Athletics Department is announcing several new members.

The department welcomed Jeremy Havens, Assistant Athletics Director for Ole Miss Sports Productions; Jason List, Assistant AD for Marketing; Carley Cryer, Spirit Coordinator (Rebelettes); Arikka Fears, Spirit Coordinator (Cheer); Chris Sabo, Producer/Director; and Jessica Poole, Assistant Media Relations Director.

"We are excited to welcome five new members to our marketing and communications team," said Michael Thompson, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Marketing and Communications.  "Each of these outstanding individuals understands and are passionate about the role that marketing and communications plays in accomplishing the department's mission of being the top athletics program in the country."

Havens comes to Ole Miss from Illinois State, where he served the previous three years as the Director of Redbird Productions.  He was in charge of all video content for ISU's athletics department, in-game scoreboard video and graphics production, overseeing online video streaming and producing commercial content for department marketing purposes.

Prior to arriving at Illinois State, Havens served as a video editor/designer for the NBA Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA Lynx from October 2009 to November 2010. Other professional sports team experience includes working as the production coordinator for the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars from 2007 until 2009.

List joins Ole Miss after a three-year stint as the Assistant AD for Marketing and Sponsorships at UC Riverside.   Prior to that, List worked as an account executive with Clear Channel Radio in Riverside and as an internet marketing consultant with Reach Local in Ontario, Calif.

While with Reach Local, List was responsible for acquiring, managing, and maintaining online customers for small and medium sized businesses throughout Southern California.

With Clear Channel, he developed, proposed and executed local, regional and national advertising and marketing campaigns for area companies using a variety of radio, online and onsite platforms.

Cryer, a native of Mississippi and a graduate of Ole Miss, returns to Oxford after three years at Southeastern Louisiana as the Marketing Coordinator for Athletics.  She oversaw gameday coordination of recognitions, in-game promotions and entertainment in conjunction with the band, spirit groups and sponsor agreements.  Cryer was also responsible for developing and executing athletic promotional events, designing advertising materials and student promotional programs.

Cryer brings over five years of high school and collegiate coaching experience to her new position and 15 years of dance experience.  She served as the coach and sponsor of the nationally-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas Starlettes dance team in Hammond, La.   Cryer began her coaching career at Ole Miss, as she served as the Rebelette coach from 2008 to 2010. She is a former head instructor for the Universal Dance Association and has judged and choreographed at the state and national level.

Fears boasts an extensive background in cheer and dance at all levels.  Most recently, Fears spent the past three years serving as the Spirit Coordinator at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa.    She led the Tomcat Spirit Squad to many top finishes in national competitions, including a sixth-place finish in the College Nationals in 2011 and a 10th place finish in the NCA/NDA Collegiate Nationals in 2013.

Fears arrived at Thiel after a four-year stint at West Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas, where she served as the coordinator of the school's dance team.  She also had responsibility for the freshman and junior varsity cheerleading squads.

The UDA named Fears its Head Instructor of the Year in 2004, and she was also recognized as the 2009 American Dance/Drill Team Outstanding Director.

Sabo joined the Rebels from Ohio University Athletics, where he served the previous year as Assistant Director of Multimedia Marketing.  In his role, Sabo was responsible for promoting Ohio's 16 varsity sports through its video platforms.  He also served as associate producer for "RELENTLESS: An Inside Look at Ohio Football," which captured four Emmys.

Before Coming to Ohio, Sabo was a Video Operations Graduate Assistant at the University of Akron coordinating practice film and games for the football team.  From May to August of 2010, he worked as an intern for NFL Films, creating and editing sound on tape pieces for the NFL Network's show "The Playbook."

A Missouri graduate, Poole joined the media relations staff at Ole Miss with nearly eight years in the college athletics scene.    She spent the previous two years at Dartmouth University, where she served as the contact for women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, rowing, softball and swimming and diving.  Prior to that, she spent four years at the University of Michigan as assistant media relations director for women's basketball, rowing and men's soccer.

Prior to working in her hometown of Ann Arbor for the Wolverines, she was an assistant director for the Spartans - at UNC Greensboro - working with women's basketball, women's volleyball, softball and cross country/track and field.
