NEW ORLEANS - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams, as well as Katie Breathitt, have earned 2012 Division I All-Academic status from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced Monday.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.

The Rebel men accumulated a 3.28 team GPA, while the women boast a 3.34. It's the third straight year that both teams have received this distinction.

Breathitt earned the All-Academic Cross Country individual accolade for the second straight season. A senior from Lexington, Ky., she is one of 115 female student-athletes in the country to earn that status in 2012.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2012.

Breathitt raced to the best regional finish in school history with a sixth-place result at the 2012 NCAA South Regional. She became the first female in Ole Miss history to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships and earned All-Region status. She also captured the top SEC finish in school history when she placed ninth to earn all-league recognition.

The Lexington, Ky., native holds a 3.40 grade point average as an elementary education major. She made the SEC Academic Honor Roll in track and field in 2011 and 2012, while she was also a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member for soccer in 2008 and 2009.
