Women's Tennis Earns Top ITA Academic Honor

OXFORD, Miss. – Not only did the Ole Miss women’s tennis team make their sixth consecutive NCAA appearance, but the Rebels earned the ITA All-Academic Team Award for the 18th straight year, as announced Thursday.

The Rebels were one of nine Southeastern Conference teams to earn the ITA All-Academic Team Award.      

This award honors teams with outstanding academic achievements, requiring a minimum overall 3.2 grade point average to be considered.  The Rebels posted an impressive 3.52 cumulative team GPA for the year.

Five players were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes:  Mai El Kamash, Julia Jones, Marija Milutinovic, Caroline Rohde-Moe, and Erin Stephens. To be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the year.  

“To receive this award 18 straight years is a tribute to the players, who are dedicated to being outstanding in the classroom as well as on the court,” head coach Mark Beyers said. “They are very deserving of this distinction. These honors are also a direct reflection of the tremendous support we receive from the university, the athletics administration and the academic staff.”

Rohde-Moe posted a perfect 4.0 GPA for the year to earn the honor for the third time in her career.  She graduated with honors in May with a degree in Managerial Finance and Banking and Finance.  The All-SEC honoree, earned plenty of academic honors, including a Taylor Medal, awarded to the top one percent of each academic school at Ole Miss.

Jones received the distinction for the third time in as many years posting a 3.64 GPA for the year, while earning All-SEC second team honors.
    
El Kamash (3.76), Milutinovic (3.50) and Stephens (3.73) all garnered the award for the second time.

The Rebels placed all seven returning players on the SEC Academic Honor Roll, which was also announced Thursday. Rising senior Iris Verboven and soon-to-be junior Allie Robbins joined these five on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
