NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Ole Miss began its Southeastern Conference indoor track & field history in 1969 on the men's side and 1989 on the women's side.

This weekend, in the year 2017, both Rebel programs did as well as ever before at the SEC Indoor Championships, hosted by Vanderbilt.

The men matched their best finish in program history with a tie for third place in the team standings, equaling the third-place finishes from 1983, 1984 and 2016. Arkansas won the men's title with 98 points, followed by Alabama (93), Ole Miss (76), Florida (76) and Texas A&M (76).

The No. 13 nationally ranked women stormed to a fifth-place result with 61.5 team points, both the best in school history. The Rebels' previous high-water mark was sixth place in 2001 and 2008. Arkansas also claimed the women's team title (106.5), followed by LSU (94), Kentucky (72), Georgia (64) and the Rebels.

"What an incredible weekend," said second-year head coach Connie Price-Smith. "Our athletes came in here and laid it all on the line. The SEC meet is so tough, it's like a national championship. I'm just really proud of our young men and women showing up and making them say our name."

The announcers and awards presenters were saying Ole Miss a lot, indeed. For ease of reading, here's a rundown of the Rebels' most notable accomplishments from the weekend:

Brian Williams came away with the best SEC men's shot put performance in school history, earning a silver medal and breaking his own school record.

The two-hour show of the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships will air on ESPN Sunday from 7-9 p.m. CT. On the call are Dwight Stones, Larry Rawson, Jill Montgomery and SportsCenter anchor John Anderson.

Ole Miss will close out the 2017 indoor season by sending several of its athletes to the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas, on March 10-11. The national meet accepts entries from the top-16 ranked athletes in each individual event and top-12 relays.
