AUBURN, Ala. -- Dempsey McGuigan set a school record in the hammer throw in his first official outdoor competition as a Rebel to lead Ole Miss on day one of the Tiger Track Classic on Friday.

McGuigan, a redshirt-freshman from the U.K., placed runner-up with a throw of 212-7, surpassing teammate Nathan Loe's previous record of 210-3 from last season. His mark should rank among the nation's top 20 or so after this weekend's results are compiled. Loe was fourth on Friday with a heave of 196-7, while Kevin Conway finished fifth with a mark of 194-3.

Senior Phillip Young captured the triple jump title with a mark of 52-2.75 that should rank him among the nation's top 10. It was the first outdoor triple jump of the year for Young, who earned first team All-America status in the event during the indoor season.

Senior Fabia McDonald competed in the javelin for the first time this year and placed fourth overall with a throw of 135-11.

The majority of events will take place Saturday from Auburn's Hutsell-Rosen Track. Competition begins at 11 a.m. and runs through approximately 6:30 p.m.
