STARKVILLE, Miss. -- In a stellar performance at the 2015 Border Clash, Ole Miss athletes claimed four event titles, produced 11 new marks that rank among the top 10 in school history, and had six results that will move them up among the top 25 in the nation this season.

It was the second annual Border Clash between schools from Mississippi (Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Alcorn State) and Alabama (Alabama, Auburn, Samford, Alabama State) battling for state bragging rights. And for the second straight year, the Mississippi men were victorious (98-93) and the Alabama women triumphed (108-81).

Despite missing some key pieces of both squads, the Rebel men did their part by winning three event titles and finishing runner-up in two more, while the women had one event victory and a pair of runner-up finishes. The top two individual finishers from each state scored points (on a 5-3-2-1 scale), while one relay entry per state scored (on a 5-3 scale).

"I was pleased overall with our attitude, our effort and our competitive fight today," Ole Miss head coach Brian O'Neal said. "I thought from beginning of the meet with the men's hammer throw all the way through the end of the meet, we came out with the competitive fight and spirit that we look for in our student-athletes."

Sophomore Jalen Miller (100 meters), senior Robert Semien (110-meter hurdles) and redshirt-freshman Dempsey McGuigan (hammer throw) finished first in their events to lead the way for the men.

Miller ran a season-best 10.34 to win the 100 meters. That time should rank him among the top 15 or 20 in the nation this season following this weekend's results.

Semien clocked a season-best 13.98 in the 110-meter hurdles, a mark that will rank him among the NCAA's top 25.

McGuigan fell short of his season best and school record from last weekend (212-7), but he still threw 210-1, which is farther than all but one other hammer thrower in Ole Miss history.

The 800 meters was a good event for the Rebels, as sophomore Craig Engels made his Ole Miss outdoor debut with a second-place showing in 1:48.27 and junior Holland Sherrer came in third with a personal-best 1:48.63. Both runners move into the top six in school history and the top 30 in the nation this season.

Sophomore Trevor Gilley clocked a personal-best 3:45.60 in the 1,500 meters to finish third in Starkville and rank among the top 30 or so nationally this season.

The Ole Miss women were once again led by the fantastic quartet of Nicole Henderson, Shannon Ray, Khadijah Suleman and Jhorden Hunter in the 4x100-meter relay. The group blew away Friday's competition in a season-best 44.55 that ranks them third in school history and eighth in the NCAA this year.

That 4x100-meter relay squad is an undefeated 4-0 against collegiate competition this season and has the best time by an Ole Miss unit ever outside of the SEC Championships. Only the 2007 and 2008 squads at the SEC meet ran faster than this year's group did in Starkville on Friday.

Juniors Britt Ummels (1,500 meters) and Racquel Moses (400-meter hurdles) finished runners-up in their events.

Ummels clocked 4:28.61 to lead a large contingent of 13 Ole Miss women in the 1,500 meters. She, along with sophomore Mary Alex England (third place, 4:28.93) and freshman Shelby Brown (fifth place, 4:29.32) moved into the top six in school history with their times.

Moses had a career day in the 400-meter hurdles, running 59.55 to lower her previous best by almost two seconds and move into the No. 6 spot in the school record books.

Ray, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, posted a personal best in the 200 meters Friday with a time of 23.86 that moves her up to ninth in school history.

"We're beginning to get some people stepping up week in and week out and finding some key leadership," O'Neal said. "We battled really well over the last several weekends, and I thought this was another step forward for our team. The way we're beginning to mesh together is really exciting."

The Rebels expect to add even more fire to the lineup with the return of some key pieces for next weekend's Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia.
