TORRANCE, Calif. - The Ole Miss Rebels' trip to California this weekend had a little of everything - school records, nationally relevant times and marks, seasonal and personal bests across the whole range of events.

With the Rebels' 14th-ranked men and No. 15 women competing at three meets - Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, Beach Invitational - they collectively achieved three school records, 22 outdoor personal bests and some of the NCAA's best marks this year in several different events.

"It was a busy weekend with athletes going in three different directions, but all in all we had great competition and some very good performances," head coach Connie Price-Smith said. "The school records and personal-best marks show we are going in the right direction. We also had some areas that are lagging behind, so we still have some things we need to work on for the next three weeks leading up to SEC's."

Most of the top action took place Friday, with school records falling in the men's hammer throw (Dempsey McGuigan), women's 5000 meters (Mary Alex England) and women's 3000-meter steeplechase (Shelby Brown). Also, Craig Engels (1500 meters) and MJ Erb (steeplechase) both laid down the No. 2 times in their events in the NCAA this year.

Saturday's Mt. SAC Relays action was highlighted by the women's 4x100-meter quartet of Nicole Henderson, Shannon Ray, Deanna Tate and Breanna Tate running a season-best 44.73 for No. 8 in school history. In the same heat, Oregon (42.12) and LSU (42.14) clocked the two fastest times in collegiate history.

Janeah Stewart finished runner-up in the women's elite shot put - first among collegians - with a mark of 17.04m/55-11.

Brian Williams was the top collegian and fourth overall in the men's elite discus with a throw of 59.95m/196-8.

Callie Watson tied for fifth in the women's elite pole vault (4.05m/13-3.5), while Jolie Carbo came in eighth in the women's elite 400 meters (54.36). The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Jasmin Allen, Carbo, Aisha Newsome and Mercedes Mattix placed sixth in 3:40.18.

Over at the Beach Invitational, a pair of freshmen led the way. Manny Foster was 10th overall and sixth among collegians in the men's long jump (7.36m/24-1.75), while Kaira Simmons placed 20th in the women's long jump (5.71m/18-9). Simmons also ran a season-best 24.26 for 17th place in the 200 meters.

Ole Miss returns closer to home next weekend for Auburn's War Eagle Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
