CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - It was a special first day of the Virginia Challenge for the Ole Miss track & field team Friday, as the Rebels broke two school records and had several other strong performances on the University of Virginia campus.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team improved their undefeated streak against collegiate opponents to five straight meets. The squad of Nicole Henderson, Shannon Ray, Khadijah Suleman and Jhorden Hunter won the Virginia Challenge in a school-record 44.11, blowing by the previous record of 44.38 set in 2008 at the SEC Championships. It was also a Virginia Challenge meet record.

Ole Miss now ranks No. 7 in the nation this year in the women's 4x100-meter relay.

Later in the evening, freshman Brooke Feldmeier ran her first collegiate outdoor 800-meter race and achieved a school record of 2:05.29. She finished runner-up to fellow indoor All-American Hanna Green (Virginia Tech). Feldmeier broke Sherlonda Johnson's record of 2:06.24 from the 1997 SEC Championships.

Other standout performances on Friday included Jalen Miller placing third in the men's 100 meters (10.39) and Phillip Young getting third in the men's triple jump (51-11).

Fabia McDonald and Brittany Kelly sit in second and sixth places, respectively, at the end of the first day of the heptathlon. With four of seven events in the books, McDonald has 3,351 points (89 points behind the leader) and Kelly has 3,148 points. McDonald had a huge personal best of 41-3.25 in the shot put (ranks her ninth in school history), while Kelly was the top finisher in both the 100-meter hurdles (13.91) and 200 meters (24.65).

Action continues Saturday starting at 8 a.m. CT.
