CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Five school records and two meet records highlighted the Ole Miss Rebels' best weekend of the 2015 outdoor season to date at the Virginia Challenge.

Ole Miss athletes produced a total of 19 new marks that rank among the top 10 in school history, including several of those that place Rebel athletes among the top 20 or 25 in the nation this year. Ole Miss won two events and placed runners-up in four more on the weekend.

"We had a very productive weekend," said head coach Brian O'Neal, whose team broke the most school records in a single meet in recent memory. "I was very proud of our young men and women. They competed with great pride and passion all weekend long. We're beginning to learn how to start and finish meets. I definitely think we took a step forward as a team."

Three school records fell Saturday at Lannigan Field, which hosted more than 35 schools and 1,300 athletes during the two-day meet.

Sophomore Craig Engels made his Ole Miss debut in the 1,500 meters and broke the school record by almost two seconds with a sensational time of 3:40.28, finishing second out of 76 runners. The Pfafftown, North Carolina, native moved into the top five of the NCAA this year and bested teammate Sean Tobin's previous record of 3:42.07 set at the Mt. SAC Relays last year.

For the third straight weekend, redshirt-freshman Dempsey McGuigan stood out in the hammer throw, this time breaking his own school record with a toss of 215-1 to place third. The reigning SEC Freshman of the Week surpassed his own mark of 212-7 from two weeks ago. His 215-1 will keep the London, U.K., native among the top 20 or so in the nation this year.

Senior Fabia McDonald established a school record in the heptathlon with a spectacular two-day performance that resulted in 5,736 points, a top-10 mark in the nation this year. The Middletown, Ohio, native broke the previous record of 5,654 points set by LaToya McBride at the 2005 SEC Championships. Along the way, McDonald had outdoor personal bests of 20-2.5 in the long jump and 41-3.25 in the shot put.

Two other school records highlighted Friday's events -- freshman Brooke Feldmeier in the women's 800 meters (2:05.29) and the women's 4x100-meter relay (44.11).

Junior Branden Greene won the men's high jump Saturday with a meet-record and personal-best clearance of 7-1 that ranks him top 20 in the NCAA this year.

Senior Robert Semien finished runner-up overall and first among collegians in the 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 13.93 that places him among the top 25 in the NCAA this year.

Senior Phillip Young was runner-up in the long jump with a season-best 24-10.5. That distance puts him among the top 25 in the NCAA this year.

Sophomore Trevor Gilley ran a personal-best 14:03.49 to place sixth in the 5,000 meters and move him to No. 5 in the school record books.

The Ole Miss women were also impressive Saturday with several performances among the nation's elite.

In the 200 meters, freshmen Shannon Ray and Nicole Henderson were third and fourth in 23.58 and 23.59. Those marks rank them fourth and fifth in school history, respectively, and place them among the top 40 or so in the nation this year.

Another freshman, Brittany Kelly, placed eighth in the heptathlon with a score of 4,969 that ranks her seventh in school history. She also tied for third in the open high jump with a clearance of 5-6.

Sophomore Mary Alex England earned third place in the 10,000 meters with a time of 34:56.46, just off her school record of 34:48.66 from last year's Drake Relays.

Others who clocked personal bests and top 10 marks in school history included Britt Ummels (4:27.11) and Bo Ummels (4:29.04) in the 1,500 meters and Shelby Brown (17:01.72), Emily Bean (17:11.52) and Elisabeth Gaillet (17:21.98) in the 5,000 meters.
