AZUSA, Calif.
– Ole Miss men’s and women’s track & field kicked off a busy weekend of action with a handful of Rebel distance runners posting solid performances at Day One of the Bryan Clay Invite at Azusa Pacific University on Thursday night.

Ole Miss participated in part of the Distance Carnival section of the Bryan Clay Invite, which serves in conjunction with the nearby Mt. SAC Relays as one of the premier locations to clock a fast time in the distance events each outdoor season.

Sophomore Parker Scott opened the day with an impressive finish in his first full 3000-meter steeplechase of his Rebel career. Scott took sixth place at 8:55.63, the sixth-fastest time in Ole Miss history that would rank 21st nationally and eighth regionally on both descending lists entering the weekend.

Brandon Harvey finished 31st in the steeple, running the seventh-fastest time in school history at 9:11.04.

Hannah Christen had a similarly successful outing in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing 14th at 10:31.73 in her first full steeple as a Rebel as well. Christen’s time puts her at No. 5 in school history and No. 27 on the East Region list.

Ole Miss had several run 5K races on Thursday night as well. It was all freshmen in heat three of the women’s 5K, with Maddie King leading the way in sixth place at 16:51.34 – the 12th-fastest in Ole Miss history. Following her were Nicole Rice in seventh (16:52.42, 14th all-time) and Victoria Simmons in 16th (17:05.68).

Mark Robertson clocked a 33-second PR in heat three of the men’s 5K, finishing 22nd at 14:23.30. Freshman Ben Savino took 22nd in heat five himself, running 14:46.85 in his first-career 5K.

Ole Miss will simultaneously compete in three meets tomorrow, with the conclusion of the Bryan Clay Invite in addition to Rebel action beginning at both the Mt. SAC Relays and at Auburn’s War Eagle Invite.
