– Ole Miss men’s and women’s track & field received one event win and several other solid performances at a light final day of the War Eagle Invite on Saturday, wrapping up a busy and successful weekend for the Rebels across three meets in two different states.

Snagging that event win was freshman Lexi King in the open section of the women’s 1500-meter race. King won by two seconds at 4:45.54, an eight-second PR.

Fellow freshman John Rivera Jr. had an equally fast day in the 800-meter, finishing as the top collegian and taking runner-up honors at a three-second PR of 1:50.72 – making him the fifth Rebel this season to eclipse 1:51 in the 800. Additionally, all five of those Rebel men are freshman.

Senior and All-American thrower Brian Williams had another consistent week in both the discus and shot put. Williams was the runner-up in the discus at 59.98m (196-09), while he took fourth place in the shot put at 18.58m (60-11.50). Cullen Prena was the fourth-place finisher in the discus at 53.51m (175-07).

Ole Miss put one each through to the final in both the men’s and women’s long jumps. Fraquan Gaines leapt a career-best 7.15m (23-05.50) to take third place, adding onto his season-best performance in the triple jump from yesterday. Sophomore Kaira Simmons, meanwhile, took sixth in the women’s long jump at 5.87m (19-03.25).

Up next for Ole Miss is the LSU Relays on April 28, the final meet of the regular season before the SEC Outdoor Championships at the University of Tennessee on May 11-13.
