BATON ROUGE, La. -- On a gorgeous warm day at Bernie Moore Stadium on the LSU campus, Ole Miss ran blistering times and set a pair of school records at the LSU Invitational, the final competition before the May 14-16 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The five-team meet that also included LSU, Florida, Alabama and Miami witnessed some of the fastest track times and top field event marks in the nation this season with such a collection of elite track powers.

Ole Miss held its own, as the Rebels broke school records in the women's 800 meters and 4x100-meter relay, while setting numerous personal bests and some of the top marks in the country in several events. The Rebels won two event titles and placed runner-up in four others.

"Today was a great day at the track," Rebel head coach Brian O'Neal said. "I was proud of the attitude and effort our young men and women showed, and we backed that up with some outstanding performances. Now we'll get home, focus on final exams and get ready to compete with great pride at the SEC Championships."

The 4x100-meter relay squad of freshman Nicole Henderson, freshman Shannon Ray, junior Khadijah Suleman and senior Jhorden Hunter shattered their own school record with a scintillating 43.80 to place third behind top NCAA squads Florida and LSU. They broke their previous record of 44.11 from the Virginia Challenge. With their fabulous new time, they remain the No. 7-ranked school in the country this year.

Freshman Brooke Feldmeier took her own 800-meter school record to another level Saturday, running 2:03.86 to break her own mark of 2:05.29 from Virginia. She placed second in the race and moves up to No. 9 in the nation this year with her sensational time.

The Rebel men had a big day in Baton Rouge in every phase, with standout performances from sophomore short sprinter Jalen Miller, sophomore middle distance runner Craig Engels, senior jumper Phillip Young and the 4x100-meter relay.

Engels stole the show in the men's 800 meters, running a time of 1:46.13 that is second in school history only to former NCAA champion George Kersh. Engels, who placed runner-up when his late kick nearly overtook Alabama's Alex Amankwah, now ranks No. 3 in the nation this year in the 800, in addition to ranking fifth nationally in the 1,500.

Engels wasn't the only Rebel running fast times in the men's 800. Holland Sherrer was sixth in 1:48.84 and Dameon Morgan seventh in a personal-best 1:48.88. They both rank top 50 in the nation this year.

Miller had a sensational day in three events against the star-studded field of sprinters. The indoor All-American won the 100 meters with a season-best 10.24 that ranks him No. 17 in the nation. He clocked a season-best 21.01 in the 200 meters to place fourth. He anchored the Rebels' 4x100-meter relay squad (that also included Quintavius Burdette, Robert Semien and Darryl Brown) to a season-best time of 39.82 that ranks them 15th in the nation this year and fifth-best in school history.

Young used springy legs to win the triple jump and finish runner-up in the long jump. His triple jump of 52-8.75 matched a season best that ranks him 11th in the nation this year, while he leapt to a personal-best 25-0.75 to move into the top 20 in the nation in that event, as well.

Junior Branden Greene was runner-up in the high jump (6-10.25), while impressively placing sixth in the long jump (23-3.25) at the exact same time.

Redshirt-freshman Dempsey McGuigan and junior Nathan Loe had good outings in the hammer throw. McGuigan placed third with a mark of 214-5, while Loe was fifth with a mark of 205-6. In the discus, sophomore Kevin Conway was sixth with a personal-best throw of 170-9.

Other standout performances on the women's side included Ray running 11.49 in the 100 and Suleman clocking season bests in both the 100 (11.73) and 200 (23.73). Suleman moved up to 12th in school history in the 100 and 10th in the 200.

The women's 1,500 meters saw a whopping seven Rebels record personal-best times, led by runner-up Bo Ummels with a 4:27.25 that ranks her fourth in school history.

Senior Kierra White finished third in the long jump with a mark of 19-11.75 that was just off her season best of 20-1. Freshman Lanae Newsome jumped a personal-best 41-0.25 in the triple jump to move up to seventh in school history.

At the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, Sean Tobin and Robert Domanic had stellar times in the 1,500 meters. Tobin ran a season-best 3:42.17 that was just .10 off his personal best from last year that ranks him No. 2 in school history. Domanic clocked a personal-best 3:43.75 and moved up to No. 3 in school history. Both times will be fast enough to qualify for NCAA regional berths.
