Ole Miss Track Opens Season At Arkansas State

Jonesboro, Ark. - The Ole Miss Track and Field team took home seven first place finishes on Saturday, at the 16th Annual Kickoff Klassic hosted by Arkansas State University.

"We competed very well today," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "This was a great start to our indoor season. I thought we had a great fall, but I was interested to see how we would do in competition."

Sophomore Derek McGuire's (Watertown, N.Y.) first place finish in the shot put (16.44), highlighted the men's effort. Also, on the men's side, freshman Rodney Lockhart placed second in the 400 meter dash (46.54), junior Charles Baily finished second in the long jump (7.06) and freshman Justin Farmer placed second in the 200 meter dash (21.57).

Sophomore Kenyata Coleman (Brookhaven, Miss.) took home top honors in the women's 400 meter dash. Sirdonea Davis (56.65) and Brittney Barnard (58.94) completed the sweep, placing second and third, respectively.

Carmia Carroll tied for the highest mark in the high jump, with height of 1.68 meters. Cachet Murray won the long jump, with a mark of 5.90. Francis Vital placed first in the triple jump, with a mark of 11.21. Kimberly Mulkey (24.78) was the top finisher in the 200 meter dash.

Ole Miss is off for the reminder of the year. Next up, the Rebels travel to Fayetteville, Ark. on January 13, 2006, for the Arkansas Invitational.
