OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss is one of eight Southeastern Conference schools that will compete in one of the 2016 indoor track & field season’s premier events this weekend.

The Conference Clash will pit the SEC’s Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt against premier out-of-conference teams in Arizona (Pac-12), Florida State (ACC), Georgia Tech (ACC), Ohio State (Big Ten), Purdue (Big Ten), Texas (Big 12) and USC (Pac-12).

The two-day meet will run Friday (2-8 p.m.) and Saturday (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.) at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. That site will also host the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

Using a dual-meet format of SEC vs. Power 5, the top two finishers from each “team” will earn points in individual events (1st=5pts, 2nd=3pts, 3rd=2pts, 4th=1pt), and the top finisher from each “team” will earn points in the relays (1st=6pts, 2nd=3pts).

With two meets under their belts, the 25th-ranked Ole Miss women and the Rebel men boast a few of the top athletes in the country, headlined by world-leading women’s shot putter Raven Saunders.

This will be the first meet of the indoor season to which Ole Miss will send its full squad.

  • Sophomore Raven Saunders ranks No. 1 in the world with her record-setting shot put of 18.67m/61-3 at last week’s Kentucky Invitational. She broke Ole Miss, SEC, meet and facility records with that heave and improved her standing as the No. 4 women’s shot putter in NCAA indoor history.
  • Saunders ranks 21st in the NCAA and second in the SEC in the women’s weight throw (19.61m/64-4).
  • Saunders is the reigning SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
  • Sophomore Lindsey Murray ranks 27th in the NCAA and eighth in the SEC in the women’s pole vault (4.01m/13-1.75).
  • Junior Leanne Zimmer ranks 34th in the NCAA and sixth in the SEC in the women’s 800m (2:12.04).
  • Sophomore Sean Tobin is the highest-ranked Rebel on the men’s side. He’s third in the NCAA and tops in the SEC in the mile (4:02.97).
  • Senior Branden Greene is tied for 10th in the NCAA and tied for the SEC lead in the men’s high jump (2.15m/7-0.5).
  • Senior Darryl Brown is 41st in the NCAA in the men’s 200m (21.55).
  • Sophomore Dempsey McGuigan is 42nd in the NCAA in the men’s weight throw (19.32m/63-4.75).
