BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a second straight week of record-breaking throws, Ole Miss sophomore Raven Saunders was recognized as the Southeastern Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive time on Tuesday.

Over the weekend, Saunders won the Conference Clash shot put title with a Birmingham CrossPlex facility-record mark of 18.56m/60-10.75, over five feet better than the runner-up. It was four inches shy of her world-leading and school-record shot put of 18.67m/61-3 from the week earlier (that ranks her No. 4 in NCAA history), and she now owns the top two shot puts in the world this year.

The Charleston, South Carolina, native broke the 18-meter line three times on Saturday. No other NCAA shot putter has reached that mark once this indoor season.

Saunders also achieved a personal best in the weight throw in Birmingham, heaving the second of back-to-back personal-best attempts to a distance of 19.95m/65-5 that ranks her No. 2 in school history, No. 2 in the SEC and No. 17 in the NCAA this year.

She is Ole Miss’ first track & field female to garner back-to-back SEC Athlete of the Week honors.

The Rebels compete this weekend at the Vanderbilt Indoor Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee.
