Janeah Stewart Again Wins SEC Field Athlete of the Week

Feb. 6, 2018

SEC Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- For the second week in a row, Ole Miss track and field senior All-American Janeah Stewart has been named the SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Stewart kept her incredible senior campaign going strong this past week at Southern Illinois' Don DeNoon Invite, throwing the NCAA lead in the weight throw at 23.83m (78-02.25), a two-foot career-best that breaks her own school record and moves her up from No. 6 to No. 4 in the history of the NCAA. Stewart owned five of the top-10 tosses in the NCAA last week, as well as 12 of the top 21 nationally in 2018. She now owns a half-foot lead on the national descending list with her throw, which was the best in the NCAA since 2008 and ranks No. 3 on the world list in 2018.

Stewart also won the shot put at SIU to complete the sweep, taking the win at a two-foot season-best at 17.12m (56-02.00). She now ranks No. 8 in the NCAA this year, making her one of three athletes nationally to rank in the top-eight in both the weight and shot.

Ole Miss splits squad yet again this week, with a delegation of distance runners heading north to the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, and the remainder of the team returning to Vanderbilt for the Music City Challenge.
