SEC Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss junior Maddie McHugh has been named the SEC Women’s Runner of the Week after a strong open in the 800-meter run at the Trailblazer Challenge last weekend.

McHugh, who is coming off an indoor season in which she earned Second-Team All-SEC honors as the third-place finisher in the 800, had the best open of her career in her signature event out in Los Angeles over the weekend at the inaugural Trailblazer Challenge, winning a tight 800-meter race at 2:06.12 to edge out Miami’s Kayla Johnson for the win by less than two tenths of a second.

McHugh’s time puts her at No. 2 on the national descending list, and it sits atop both the NCAA East Region and SEC lists at this early stage of the outdoor season.

Ole Miss returns to Oxford to host its first home meet of 2018 with the Ole Miss Classic on Saturday, which begins at 9 a.m.
