Ole Miss Track Meet Cancelled

April 3, 2014

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Invitational track & field meet originally scheduled for this Saturday has been cancelled.

As a safety precaution, school officials have decided to suspend use of the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex while the surface of the facility is being investigated.

"Safety and security are our first priorities," said Athletics Director Ross Bjork. "As soon as we recognized potential issues at the facility, we sought immediate testing and have discovered potential cavities under the surface. Engineering experts are being brought in for further research and to help determine the best course of action for the short and long term. Under Coach O'Neal's leadership, we are building a championship program, and we are committed to providing our student-athletes with the best resources for success."

During this time, the track program will continue to utilize the newly-renovated Manning Center for training in addition to the facilities at Oxford and Lafayette High Schools. Should the track facility not be available, an alternative location for the Ole Miss Duals on April 26 is being determined.

The No. 12 Rebel men and the Rebel women will return to action on Friday, April 11, for the Alabama vs. Mississippi meet in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
