OXFORD, Miss. -- For one day, instead of being in-state rivals, Ole Miss will be on the same team as Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Alcorn State.

Those four programs will take on four schools from Alabama on Friday in the 2015 Border Clash at the Mike Sanders Track Complex in Starkville.

The Border Clash is scheduled to begin with field events at 10:30 a.m., while running events start at 5 p.m. The four Mississippi schools will go up against teams from Alabama, Auburn, Samford and Alabama State. The top two individual finishers from each state will score points (on a 5-3-2-1 scale), while one relay entry per state will score (on a 5-3 scale).

At last year's inaugural Border Clash in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Ole Miss athletes claimed nine event titles. Team Mississippi won the men's competition, while Team Alabama prevailed on the women's side.

Ole Miss has been steadily improving throughout the 2015 season and boasts several athletes among the nation's and Southeastern Conference's elite.

"What we've preached here from day one is week-to-week, day-to-day, working to get better," head coach Brian O'Neal said. "I thought last weekend was a big step forward for our women's sprint group, and that was good to see. Those young women have been working really hard, and they believe in themselves.

"We always talk about representing Ole Miss and the great state of Mississippi," said O'Neal, who is a native of Pontotoc and a graduate of Ole Miss, "but in this case we get a chance to partner with our sister schools in the state and combine as one unit against the state of Alabama."
