Ole Miss Track & Field: Going the Distance
May 4, 2016

Under third-year assistant coach Ryan Vanhoy, the Ole Miss distance running program is making a name for itself.

After building a foundation with youngsters Robert Domanic, Sean Tobin and Trevor Gilley back in 2014, the Rebels have taken off in the last couple of years.

The men's cross country team has made back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances, the first two in school history, while the women's team has been rising consistently up to a fifth-place SEC finish this past fall.

The results on the track have been staggering. Nearly every school record in distance events has been broken over the last three years, save for former NCAA champion Barnabas Kirui's steeplechase record and a couple others. The distance events have helped the men to their two best SEC indoor finishes since 1984, including three straight league titles in the distance medley relay.

It's been more of the same outdoors, with numerous All-Americans and a unit that is set up to score bunches of points at the upcoming SEC Championships and NCAA Championships.
