Rebel Women Finish No. 9 in USTFCCCA Program of the Year Standings
June 12, 2018

– Ole Miss women’s track & field and cross country finished the season ranked ninth in the USTFCCCA’s annual Program of the Year standings, which were announced on Tuesday.

The Program of the Year award assigns a point value to the national finish of each team following the cross country, indoor and outdoor seasons, with the lowest point total being named the winner. Stanford won the women’s title with 15 total points, while Alabama took the men’s crown at 28.5.

This marks just the second time the Rebel women have ever finished ranked in the Program of the Year standings after taking eighth overall in 2017. The Rebel men finished a program-record third in 2017, making Ole Miss one of just six programs nationally last season to have both their men’s and women’s teams making the cut (alongside Arkansas, Oregon, Stanford, Colorado and Oklahoma State).

Ole Miss had a historic season on the cross country course, winning their first-ever NCAA South Region title to punch just their second team ticket to the national meet. The Rebel women took 25th overall, their second-straight top-25 team finish at the NCAA Championships.

Indoors, the Rebels finished 35th at the NCAA Indoor Championships thanks to senior Janeah Stewart’s third-place finish in the weight throw. Outdoors, Stewart led the charge again, pushing Ole Miss into a tie for 20th after scoring 14 total points – winning the NCAA hammer title and taking fifth overall in the shot put. All 20 NCAA points scored by the Rebel women this season came from Stewart, who also scored 42 SEC points by herself this year.
