BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Another successful Ole Miss athletics season came to a close last month, but the accolades continue to come in for the Rebels.  Seventy-nine Ole Miss student-athletes were named to the 2014 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll, as announced by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, Thursday.

A total of 1,181 student-athletes were named to the 2014 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll. The honor roll is based on grades from the 2013 summer, 2013 fall and 2014 spring terms.

Baseball enjoyed a banner season on the diamond, reaching the final four of the College World Series and capturing the SEC Western Division title. Off the diamond, 17 players made the SEC Academic Honor Roll, including senior co-captains Will Allen and Austin Anderson.

Men's track and field and women's track and field combined for 29 on the honor roll, including NCAA and SEC Champion pole vaulter Sam Kendricks.

Softball placed 10 on the honor roll, led by All-SEC honoree RT Cantillo and Carly Hummel, who threw the first perfect game in school history.

In addition to advancing to the NCAA second round, both Rebel tennis teams continued their tradition of success off the courts.  All returning players on the women's team made the honor roll, including Capital One Academic All-District and Taylor Medalist recipient Caroline Rohde-Moe. Johan Backstrom, who was named a Capital One Academic All-American, is among four men on the list.

Men's golf tallied seven on the honor roll, including Capital One Academic All-District honoree Forrest Gamble. Women's golf boasted five players on the list, including Stani Schiavone, who was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Taylor Medalist Kathryn Fowler, who graduated with honors.

Student-athletes must meet several criteria to be named to the league's academic honor roll: (1) A student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution. (2) If a student-athlete attends summer school, his/her grade point average during the summer academic term must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the Academic Honor Roll. (3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letterwinner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons. (4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution. (5) The student-athlete must have been a member of a varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
