Photos from the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials

With only three days left until the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, we at thought Rebel Nation would enjoy photos from last month's U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

It was an historic showing for Ole Miss at the trials, including five representatives who qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games: Gwen Berry (women's hammer), Sam Kendricks (men's pole vault), Brittney Reese (women's long jump), Ricky Robertson (men's high jump) and Raven Saunders (women's shot put).

Not only did the Rebels send a record number of athletes (13) to Eugene, but the school's biggest stars shined brightest in the national spotlight. Kendricks and Reese both shattered Olympic Trials records in their events, while the 20-year-old Saunders wowed the track & field world by claiming silver in the shot put, generally considered a veteran's event.

Another current Rebel, Craig Engels, just missed a berth to Rio in both the 800 meters (4th place) and 1500 meters (5th place), while fellow distance runner MJ Erb made the 3000-meter steeplechase final.
