OXFORD, Miss. - First-year head coach Brian O'Neal and the Rebel cross country teams will compete in their last regular season meet on Saturday before heading to the SEC Championships on Oct. 26.
The Rebels will be traveling to the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The meet is hosted by the University of Alabama and will take place at Harry Pritchett Running Park.
The men will compete on an 8K course beginning at 8:30 a.m. The women's race will follow at 9:10 a.m. on a 5K course.
The Ole Miss women are ranked No. 5 in the South Region this week by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Rebels are coming off of an 11th-place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 29, led by an impressive eighth-place finish from senior Katie Breathitt.
Breathitt, a native of Lexington Ky., currently has the fourth-best 5K time in the SEC this year (17:01.68), as well as the fourth-best 6K time (21:03.23).
Freshman Seumas O'Reilly has helped pace the Rebel men all season. The Front Royal, Va., native currently holds the best four-mile time of all SEC freshmen (21:28.93).
Both Ole Miss teams are expected to sit their normal top runners on Saturday, which will provide valuable experience to the rest of the squad.
