OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the 2013 Pre-National Invitational this Saturday.
The meet is hosted by Indiana State University at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
"The Pre-National Invitational will be a tough test for us. We're looking forward to the challenge this weekend," head coach Brian O'Neal said.
This will be the Rebels' last meet before the SEC Championships (Nov. 1 in Gainesville, Fla.) and NCAA South Regional (Nov. 15 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.).
The Rebel men and women are both coming off successful meets at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational on Sept. 28. The men were led by sophomore Ian Carter, who ran under 25 minutes for the first time in his career. The women were led by freshman Michaela Quinn with a seventh place individual finish.
"What we want to do is to continue to get better," O'Neal said. "After Virginia, we've had a few weeks to get in more training and now we'll get to see how much we've improved against the toughest field we've faced this season."
Several teams competing in Terre Haute show up in the national rankings, and they are as follows:
1. Oklahoma State
19. Boise State
2. Florida State
19. Oklahoma State
21. William and Mary
27. Penn State
The Rebel women are ranked seventh in the USTFCCCA South Region rankings heading into the Pre-National Invitational.
The men run in the 8K Blue Race at 10 a.m., and the women run the 6K Blue Race at 10:40 a.m.
