Nov. 16, 2017

New Orleans — After the Ole Miss women’s cross country team won their first NCAA South Region Championship, coach Ryan Vanhoy has been awarded the South Region Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.

Vanhoy received this award after leading the women’s program to repeat NCAA championship appearances after taking them to their first appearance in 2016. Vanhoy also had five All-Region runners on the women’s team this year.

The women’s team finished top three in five of their six meets this season including wins at the Rebel Invite, Cowboy Jamboree and NCAA South Region Championship. He also led the women’s team to their best national ranking in program history when they were ranked 12th in the Sept. 26 rankings.

This was Vanhoy’s fifth year coaching at Ole Miss. Previously Vanhoy had won the USTFCCCA Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2016, South Region Men’s Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016 and South Region Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year in 2015.

The Rebels will be in action again when they travel to Louisville, Ky. for the NCAA Cross Country Championship. The women’s 6K will start at 9:45 a.m. CT and the men’s 10K will start at 10:45 a.m. CT.
