Cross Country Begins Season

OXFORD, MISS.— Ole Miss cross country got their season started on Saturday night in Memphis, Tennessee, in the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic.

The nationally ranked Rebels, both ranked 18th, finished behind SEC foes Alabama and Mississippi State, as the men came in at fourth and the women finished third.

Derek Gutierrez had the top time for the Rebels at 19:46.79 finishing fourth on the night. Anna Braswell ran the top time for the women at 17:59.75 finishing 14th.

Head Coach Ryan Vanhoy was excited with the signs shown by his yougest runners.

"I was really impressed with how some of our younger athletes competed tonight" said Vanhoy. "I thought Madeline King and Victoria Simmons ran very well for us as true freshmen. Brandon Harvey ran a smart, patient race and closed very well over the last half. Ben Savino and Tyler Moore also showed up well in their first race for Ole Miss which was exciting to see."

The Rebels will compete next at the Rebel Invite on September, 15, at FNC Park in Oxford, Mississippi.
