The Ole Miss women’s cross country team turned in a fourth place finish at the Crimson Classic. The finish is the women’s third top-5 result of the season.

The Rebels were led once again by junior Mary Alex England and sophomore Shelby Brown. England clocked a time of 17:04.25 for an eighth place finish, which is her fourth top 10 finishes in four meets this season. Brown’s time of 17:39.92 was good for 22nd overall. Ole Miss showcased its depth by placing six runners in the top 35.

"We have been very consistent from meet to meet which is encouraging heading into the championship portion of the season," cross country coach Ryan Vanhoy said. "Mary Alex did a great job leading us again as she has done all season. Many girls had their best races of the season, including Emily Bean as she continues to make her return into our varsity line up. We'll get back to work and get prepared to compete in College Station in two weeks time."

The Ole Miss men’s cross country team raced to a 24th place finish at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, an event featuring many of the top teams in the country.

"Our men had a tough one out there today," Vanhoy said. "We didn't look particularly good and struggled a bit over the back half of the race. I thought Sean Tobin ran a tough race and finished very well over the last 1k, passing nearly 20 athletes in the final stages of the race."

Sophomore Sean Tobin finished 33rd out of 244 runners with a time of 24.02.90 to lead the Rebels in the 8K race. Junior MJ Erb finished a few seconds behind him with a time of 24:08.8, which was good for 47th overall.

"We'll reflect on it together and address what needs to be improved upon as we move forward," Vanhoy said. "I know this group is resilient and expects more out of themselves, so I am optimistic that they will bounce back."

The SEC Championships are up next for both the men and the women on October 30. Last season, the Rebel men claimed a runner-up finish to match the best finish in program history at the conference meet.
