Aug. 30, 2016

OXFORD, Miss. – After an historic 2015 campaign the Ole Miss men’s cross country team cracked the USTFCCCA Coaches Preseason Poll for the second year in a row, ranking 22nd when rankings were released Tuesday.

The ranking is an eight-spot improvement from where the Rebels finished at the 2015 NCAA Championships, tying Eastern Kentucky for the largest jump by any school.

The FloTrack Preseason Poll was released on Tuesday as well, ranking the Rebels 13th. The Rebels made this poll after not being ranked to end the year in 2015.

The Rebels will start off the year also ranked No. 1 in the South Region, and No. 2 in the SEC, making all three polls in back-to-back years after being ranked in all three in 2015; No. 15 (USTFCCCA), No. 1 (SEC) and No. 1 (NCAA South Region).

Ole Miss joins Arkansas (No. 6) as the only two SEC teams in the USTFCCCA poll, with Texas A&M being the only other SEC school to receive a vote.

The Rebels also join the Razorbacks (No. 4) as the only two SEC schools in the FloTrack poll.

The women’s team will start the year off ranked fifth in the SEC and third in the NCAA South Region.

They also recieved one vote in the national poll.

Both the men and women will open their 2016 season Saturday, September 3, at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, with the women’s 5K beginning at 9:20 p.m. with the men’s race following at 10 p.m.
