Rebel Cross Country Starts Their Season On Saturday In Memphis
Sept. 1, 2017

OXFORD, MISS. Rebel cross country kicks off the 2017 season tomorrow night, Sept. 2, in Memphis, Tennessee, with the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic.

Head coach Ryan Vanhoy is excited to see their hard work in the offseason pay off in the first race of the season.

“We enjoy competing in Memphis every year as it’s close to home and an easy trip for our group,” Vanhoy said. “We look forward to seeing a few new faces in the Rebel uniform and finding out where a few of our upperclassmen are fitness-wise coming off the summer.”

Last season, both teams were ranked at the same time in the USTFCCCA national rankings for the first time in the program’s history.

Ole Miss cross country qualified for the NCAA National Championships for the first time when the men made it to nationals in 2014. The men have repeated the feat the past two season, returning to Oxford, Mississippi, with better finishes each year.

Joining the men in 2016 was the Ole Miss women’s cross country team as they competed at the NCAA National Championships first time in their history. The women had a 23rd place finish to accompany the men’s fourth-place finish.

Topping off the historic season, Vanhoy was named the USTFCCCA South Region Coach of the Year after leading the Rebels to heights never seen before.

This year, they won’t surprise anyone after both men’s and women’s teams were chosen to finish third in the SEC, first in the South Region and No. 18 in the nation.

The Rebels will start at 9:20 p.m. for the women’s race followed by the men’s race at 10 p.m.
