Cross Country Returns Home This Weekend
Sept. 8, 2016

OXFORD, Miss. – The 2016 cross country season continues Friday as the Ole Miss men and women are set to host and run in the inaugural Rebel Invite

The meet will feature a women’s 5K beginning at 6:45 p.m., and a men’s 6K beginning at 7:15 p.m. Both races will take place at FNC Park in Oxford.

The men’s team will run while still ranked 22nd in the USTFCCCA Coaches’ Poll as well as first in the South Region rankings after their third-place finish at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic last weekend

“We are excited to run at home this weekend,” Ole Miss coach Ryan Vanhoy said. “This is our first home cross country meet since 2009, so we are ready to welcome fans and friends from the community to spectate at the new course that has been constructed at FNC Park.”

Vanhoy also says that the Rebels will run many of their top distance runners who did not compete last week in the Brooks Memphis Twilight.

“We’ll use this meet as an early checkpoint to see where we are in terms of progressing toward our goals at the end of the season,” he added.

The women’s team comes into this meet after a third-place finish in Memphis, and still ranked third in the South Region.

The Rebel Invite will feature three other schools besides Ole Miss. Jackson State, Southeast Missouri State, and Southern Miss will all travel to Oxford to compete with the Rebels.

This will be the first regular-season home cross country meet since 2009 and the first home meet during Vanhoy’s tenure in Oxford. The action will take place at FNC Park at 328 Old Sardis Road. Admission will be free and there will be a $5 parking fee per vehicle.
