Tobin Named USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Male XC Athlete of the Week

OXFORD, Miss. – After an impressive run at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational where he finished first overall, junior Sean Tobin was named USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Male XC Athlete of the Week Monday.

The Clonmel, Ireland native surged late in the 5-mile race to secure his first collegiate individual win with a time of 23:31.9, three seconds faster than runner-up George Parsons of NC State. Tobin’s overall win helped the Rebels capture the team title as well, their second of the season.

As the male Division I honoree, Tobin joins Anna Rohrer of Notre Dame at the Division I ranks. 

10 honorees are selected by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week. Five male and female honorees, with two representatives from each division, NCAA Division I through NJCAA Division III).

Tobin’s success has been key to the men’s No. 20 national ranking in the USTFCCCA Coaches’ Poll, No. 13 ranking in the FloTrack Poll and No. 1 ranking in the NCAA South Region.

The Ole Miss women also rank No. 1 in the NCAA South Region while earning votes for the other polls weekly.

The Rebels will be back in action October 14, when they head off to two meets. One group will travel to State College, Pennsylvania, to run in the Penn State National, and another group will head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the Crimson Classic.
