OXFORD, Miss. –
After an individual win at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational that earned him USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Male XC Athlete of the Week honors, junior Sean Tobin was named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Runner of the Week the league announced Tuesday.

Tobin’s 5-mile time of 23:31.9 was tops on the team and the field of 202 in South Bend, Indiana. His individual win was the first of his collegiate career and helped propel the then-20th ranked Rebel men to an important team win against other nationally ranked opponents.

The win helped the Rebels move up 10 spots to No. 10 in this week’s USTFCCCA Coaches’ Poll while holding onto the No. 1 ranking in the South Region.

The Clonmel, Ireland native has been a key to the Rebels’ success early in the year, finishing in the top 10 of both meets he has competed in on the year (seventh at Rebel Invite).

Tobin joins freshman Anna Elkin as the two Rebels to receive SEC weekly honors this season.

The Rebels will be back in action on October 14 when they split into two squads and send one to State College, Pennsylvania, for the Penn State National and the other to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the Crimson Classic.
