Rebels Set to Compete in Two Meets this Weekend

Crimson Classic Live Results

OXFORD, Miss. –
Coming off big team and individual performances two weeks ago at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, the Ole Miss cross country team will split for two meets this weekend. Part of the team will travel to State College, Pennsylvania, for the Penn State National Open, and part of the team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the Crimson Classic

After a men’s team first-place victory and a women’s seventh-place finish in South Bend, Indiana, two weeks ago both Rebel teams go into the weekend nationally ranked. The men check in at No. 10 and the women at No. 25 marking the first time in program history that the men and women are ranked in the national polls. Both teams hold onto the No. 1 ranking in the USTFCCCA South Region as well.

A larger part of the team will travel to the Penn State National with a total of 24 runners (10 men and 14 women) running in State College. The group is headlined by junior Sean Tobin and senior MJ Erb on the men’s side. Tobin finished first overall individually at Notre Dame, earning him USTFCCCA Division I Male XC Athlete of the Week and SEC Men’s Runner of the Week honors while Erb finished fourth individually in his first meet of 2016. The women are highlighted by senior Mary Alex England and junior Shelby Brown who finished first and second on the team in Notre Dame.

A smaller contingent of the team will be in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the Crimson Classic. A total of nine runners (6 women and 3 men) will compete in Tuscaloosa. The men feature junior Nolan Hesse while the women feature senior Scarlett Fox who will be running in her first race of 2016.

The running in State College will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET, with the women’s 6K while the men’s 5.2 mile run will begin at 12:15 p.m. ET. Races in Tuscaloosa will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the men's 8K while the women's 6K will begin at 9:45 a.m. CT.
