Oct. 17, 2017

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. After posting the top finish by an SEC freshman this past week at the Pre-National Invitational, Ole Miss freshman cross country runner Parker Scott was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.

Scott, who finished No. 2 for Ole Miss in 33rd place in the 8K at a personal-best 23:45.6, has now been named Freshman of the Week twice this season – the previous occurrence coming off a fourth-place finish at the Rebel Invite on Sept. 15.

The Corpus Christi, Texas, native shaved 1:02.9 off his previous 8K best of 24:48.5 set two weeks earlier at the Cowboy Jamboree. Scott ran an average mile time of 4:46.8 this past week and owned the fourth best time of all SEC runners at Pre-Nationals.

Scott was a key component in a strong outing by the Rebel men, who finished fifth overall behind four top-12 teams nationally while also beating out three ranked teams in No. 5 Arkansas, No. 19 Georgetown and No. 27 Utah State.

The Rebels will be back in action next week on Fri., Oct. 27, when they compete at the SEC Cross Country Championships in Athens, Georgia.
